Rare Large 13 Star Centennial Banner from 1876. Made of heavy weight satin like silk fabric. Hand sewn metal bullion stars with rare metal fringe along the scalloped bottom hem. The majority of the banner is hand sewn. There is hand treadle stitching along the side hem’s Very impressive showpiece. Americans celebrated the Centennial with renewed faith in a nation stretching from Atlantic to Pacific and encouraging invention and industry. The Centennial International Exhibition of 1876, the first official World’s Fair in the United States, was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from May 10 to November 10, 1876, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. the Centennial Exposition impressed foreigners in that the country grew industrially and commercially. The number of exports increased, the number of imports decreased, and the balance grew in favor of America.
