7 Star Civil War Antique Sympathy Flag
7 Star Civil War Antique Sympathy Flag. During The Civil War so called sympathy flags were made to show support for the southern cause. They were used in the North and South. 7, 8 and 9 star flags were made. I have seen a 10, 11 and 12 star sympathy flag but they are really rare. This is a 7 star signifying the first 7 states to seceded from the Union, as the 8th state seceded they made the 8 star flag and so on. Made of starched gauze fabric. The original red ink has turned orange which is typical of inks made in this time period. The white has turned tan and there are area of brown in the white. The blue is still pretty good. IT has six small stars surrounding a larger tilted center star. And most of the original stick is present. Truly a beautiful flag that has seen some hard times, just like America, has. Museum framing in a all wood frame with UV acrylic.
