Congress voted to admit the 36th State in October 1864. States do not become official to the following July 4th. This Civil War era flag has tilted stars and was made by stenciling one at a time by hand onto starched gauze fabric. Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson were Presidents during this era.
