Antique 15 Star Flag ~ A rare find for any collection. SOLD

An authentic antique 15 Star Flag. Made of starched gauze material and stenciled by hand one at a time. Still attached to a portion of the stick.  It has wonderful “spiney, tilted up side down stars. The star arrangement is also quite rare, its call a medallion arrangement with the stars arranged in a circle with one star in each corner and a large center star.  It is extremely rare to find a 15 Star Flag of any kind. Based on the age, style and construction of this flag it is identical to flags made during the Civil war period from 1858 to 1865.  The South’s main goal prior to and during the war was to organize a confederacy of 15 States at which point the United States would be forced to accept the Confederacy and sign a peace treaty.  Therefore this is rare Civil War example of a 15 Star Sympathy flag, also called a rebellion flag and a “Inclusionary  Flag.
