Presidential 38 Star Campaign Flag with the image of James G. Blaine of Main. He ran against Rutherford B. Hayes in the 1876 party nominee election and lost. He ran again in 1880 against James A. Garfield for the party’s nomination and lost. He ran again in 1884 and won his party’s nomination but lost in the general election against Grover Cleveland Flag has patent date imprinted on it below the canton: PATENTED SEPT 4TH 1883 This makes the flag important as he was his party’s Presidential Nominee. Antique American Flag with a presidential image on it is rare and highly collectable. Especially items for the looser as most of his memorabilia was tossed after losing the election. This flag is made of starched gauze. It has seen some rough times as shown in the photographs but it is still rare and collectable.
